Howdy folks,

Im a total noob having a 'just turned 30 crisis' so its about time i get some surfing under my belt.

Heading out to the Canaries in October specifically for surf school. Anyone got any recommendations as to what island and what surf school to go to?

Lanzarote seems to be pretty good, but not for the beginner?

Any tips would rock...

Cheers,

TBK

HI mrc,

yeah, the more i dig the more I hear about it not being great for beginners. Am now thinking about Morocco. Have read a few good posts about it so far, but still need to do more digging about it...

Hey Kidney

I went to Lanzagrotte last year and am planning on going there in October also.

The good thing about Lanza (and the rest of the Canary Islands) is that you can get there cheap with last minute deals and going out of season.

Lanza is good for beginners as it has a large beach break where most of the schools go (it also has other good beaches and breaks) . I'd say it is as good as anywhere for a beginner.

We stay in the touristy bit (Puerto Del Carmen) and hire a car. This means we can hang out at all the touristy bars n' clubs and dance with the type of cheap-loose women who frequent such places, then drive to the beaches on the other side of the island to surf.

I'd say that that Morocco and the Canary's would be the same level and you won't find one more beginner friendly than the next, it all depends on the swell which hits them all!
