Hoping to go travelling in south east asia for 3 months heading off in January. Not an absolute beginner but not much better! So is it worth making the detour to Bali or is thailand better for beginners? We can go surfing at the end or beginning of our trip ie in January or in March/April. Any advice would be appreciated..

Thailand will be flat between November and June. Theres the monsoons that bring the surf between June and October, but in the other season it is dead flat.

Bali might be your best bet.

Also just wondering what people think about the issues around any terrrorist threat in Bali? The Australian government has advised ppl not to go . Was wondering do people here think there is a danger?

Don't worry about it in Bali. The Australian government advises you not to go there because if you do, you won't be spending money in Australia and paying their wages. I find they are a bit overprotective.

In Bali it should be fine. Have fun surfing!
