Hey my gal and I are flying into L.A. at the end of July and want to spend most of our trip surfing some nice intermediate waves away from the hustle and bustle. We are going to rent a car, don't mind hostels, motels, and b and b's. We would also like to spend a weekend in L.A., tour a vineyard and find some good shopping (that's her talking). We don't want to spend the entire time driving so if anyone can be out virtual tour guide for this one we would really appreciate it. Beer's on me if we get the chance to meet and show our gratitude. Cheers - Ryan

Morro Bay/San Luis Obispo area is well known for it's vineyards, it's about 3- 3 1/2 hours outside of LA, and beach areas have decent waves. I don't know about the crowds though. As for shopping if she is into outlet shopping there is an outlet center in Pismo Beach. Don't know too much more, I don't live there, but have relatives there and know people who like to go to the vineyards up there.
Points further south are generally more crowded, Orange county (my hometown area) has plenty of beaches and shopping, but is short in the area of vineyards.
