hi to everyone who reads this,
i'm currently planning a rtw surf trip and i'm basically after any advice from anyone who's done the same/similar, i've done short trips a few times to within uk, canaries and australia plus i'm off to n.z in feb for 3 weeks to see some friends so i'm not doinmg this blind, just need any useful pointers really.
places i'm going or planning to go anyway are as follows:
california in oct
hawaii (o'ahu) in nov
fiji in nov/dec
tahiti (undecided)
n.z in dec/jan
oz jan-aug/sept
indo sept/oct
so any useful info about these places would be sweet, i.e places to stay/surf and steer clear of!
many thanks in advance
ally

yeah i surfed the hot pipes for a while then when i got better i tried the marina, more consistant and shreddable wave (when it's on)
had a good day in shoreham harbour last week over the far wall, only 4 of us in, clean cross/offshore on the wrap around.

I just saved up and spent all my money, and any future monies, on one massive huge surf trip.
Sounds like it will be an awesome trip though. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!

Hey mate, I'm from Shoreham (aka shareham where the family trees don't have too many branches) as well.
I've been to a few of the places on your list, and live in NZ now. Just my opinion, but here goes:
Tahiti, beautiful place, beautiful people, scary scary waves, very expensive.
Fiji, Spain for Ozzies and Kiwis. Can be done cheap, but you'll be paying mucho dinero to surf any decent waves, but it's worth it. Still lovely, might be a bit dodgy due to the latest coup, but probably fine, with cheaper accomodation as a result.
Indo, rocks, simple as that. If you can get off to some of the more out of the way places, and not just hang out on Bali, then there's some insane waves and fantastic cultures and people to check out. Kuta is a den of iniquity. Great fun for a week if that's your thing. Cheap too, but a bit like benidorm with good magic mushrooms.
NZ, in Dec/Jan, pick your spots well, it's kiwi summer holidays. Lots of the better known spots on the North Island will be mobbed, by NZ standards. If you can do it, probably the East Cape, Gisborne, Mahia, and all round there would be worth a visit. It can still be a bit chilly on the South Island, but there's way less people and some quality waves if you go looking. You probably need a car to get to a lot of spots out of town.
Have a good one! Might be worth having a look at some of the other South Pacific Islands if you are around there, places like Tonga, Samoa, etc etc.

cheers man, that's just what i was after!
my friends travelling atm and just been to tahiti and surfed teahupoo on a small day and said it was still scary on a head high day! but also said it was expensive out there. as for fiji he surfed at cloudbreak for like 6 hours solid one day with headhigh barrels glassy water and a few dolphins thrown in, so i have to go there!
but that was like 2/3 months ago so i guess it was off peak for the aussies/kiwis?
n.z and aus i'm not too fussed about coz they're busy all the time plus i'll be in aus for like a year.
indo's where i wanna go so bad, i'm gonna save some extra cash especially for a few boat trips/charters for when i'm out there.
well as i said i'm in n.z in feb/march for 3 weeks so i'll get a bit of an idea what it's like there then.
thanks for the input bro,
ally
