hello...

does anyone know what st lucia is like for surfing? I'm guessing windsurfing is more prominent there as all the internet searches I've done seem to just come up with stuff about that, but does anyone know if it's possible to do surfing there?

Thanks! Kim

I don't actually know. But essentially anywhere with a large amount of open ocean on it's coastline will get swell. Then it's a case of - are there any places the waves will break well. I'd guess that St Lucia has beaches so will have beach breaks at least.

On magic seaweed there is this: http://magicseaweed.com/Windward-Island ... recast/40/ which I think covers that strech of islands, St Lucia isn't mentioned explicitly though.

edit: just remembered, the main reason it might not get waves is if it has extensive offshore reefs. The swell will then break on these and not get through to the main island.

I went to St Lucia about this time last year and the few beaches that we went to were totally flat, like a lake. We didnt see all the island but I dont think you will be in luck. Went to Barbados the week after and it was cracking so I dont think it was just due to lack of swell. St Lucia is absoloutly gorgeous tho have a great time if you go.
