The Canary Islands

OK, i've been meaning to make a topic about this for a while. I am planning to go with my family to the Canary Islands for about 2 weeks. I plan on it being a surfing holiday for most of the days. I have surfed quite a few places and am really good when i surf a few days in a row and get used to the water again because the thing is, i cant get away too often to surf right now and everytime i do i seem to have lost my practice and am always rusty and this is because of this.

Anywayy, i wouldnt say im a beginner but then again im not amazing :) . What country (and where) would you recommend for the best surfing (for my standard), nice, clean beaches with nice restaurants and food and a place where i could maybe just stay and then wake up and have a surf (right next to the ocean), a place that is not too crowded (the hotel/city not the waves) and finally i would need a surf school situated in the same city/town. I know thats a lot to ask of you guys but i've seen you've been really helpfull to a lot of people so i thought id make this topic. I have also searched around a wee bit but cant find too much. Maybe some of you guys/girls that have been to the Canaries could share your experiences and advice. Thanks a lot :)

Oh and btw i dont fancy a surf camp.

I've been to Lanzarote surfing and plan on going back to the Canaries later this year as the price and surf is great.

Similar to the UK you'll find no surf there during the summer, but if you go in Late spring or autumn the surf should be okay for most surfing levels, (it gets really big in the winter).

Lanzarotes main town is Puerto Del Carman and it is on the wrong side of the island for surf, but this is a good thing as all the beaches and breaks where the surf is are pretty empty, however there is nothing to do in any of the very small towns nearby.

I stayed in Puerto Del Carman and hired a car to go across the island and then partied with knobs n'fannies that frequent these islands at night. Great fun!

For less croweds out the water I believe fuertoventura (sp) would be better, but I haven't been there.

All the islands have places you can get lessons and safaris and hire etc.
