Has anyone travelled via Air Canada with a surfboard? If you have, did you encounter any problems with length or size of board? What is the max size allowed? The website says max length is 80in or 6ft 8in but when I called Air Canada I get different answers. Tickets are already booked through points. Need to plan ahead.

They refused to take my 7'6" on a flight. Had to phone a friend to come to the airport and pick it up for me. The website says 6'8" but the lady at the counter told me that they have the right to not allow oversized items if the plane is overcrowded or in bad weather. Use someone other than Air Canada if you can, if not, plan on renting a board where ever you go.

Thanks for the heads up. Seems like Air Canada needs to work on their customer service or review their customer needs for their own sake. It would be nice if airlines could be consistent in their rules instead of leaving things to chance. I believe Qantas allows up to a 9ft longboard, that seems like a surfer friendly airline.
