Surfing Waves

Me and a couple of friends are going away for a week surfing very soon for the first time with our own boards

Just after any handy tips for transporting/storing kit when away from home. We have a soft rack whcih apparently takes 3 boards (untested) and obviously our suits and clothes. Oh and we're in one car.. my little golf

Dont know what i'm expecting the tips to be but you dont know if you dont ask....

we've got a static van, its a friend of mines...

You might need a bucket to rinse off your wetsuits and have somewhere to hang them out to dry.

Also you will need plenty of beer !

Of course!! I'll get some san mig and try and convince myself is summertime!

Bucket is also a good shout, i can use it to chill the beer

IMO driving anything over half an hour (at speed) with a softrack would drive me utterly insane they tend to be noisy buggers, blag a proper roof rack if you can.

Its UK so see if you can get any of those board lock systems? The strong locking tie downs, or even some jury rigged bike lock or something.

I was going to say that if the softrack makes a noise dont worry about it, we tied the rack and boards on tight but it still made a noise - not much, but it was still un-nerving

and if u have a car full, get the beer when you get there, takes a lot of space up. Sounds simple but ive made that mistake once - amazing what you're willing to leave behind just to take beer!

I think i actually still have my old solid roof rack in the garage so i'll have a hunt around.

Does suncure = sunblock? if so its eveil factor 40 for me as i burn whenever the sun is even mentioned... here's a tip of my own for you all

use kids sunblock whenever you are in the water... its just better and is usually blue/pink so is easy to see it as you rub it in.

I've just started using Panama Jack factor 40 - its lush!!

Also, soft racks will hold your baords on - ours take 2 baords in separate bags the 400-odd miles from York to Kernow. BUT - they do makea very un-nerving noise, if you have the ones with cylinder shaped foam pads the boards sort of pitch forward even when they're safely tied on...I'd go for the 'proper' roof rack if you have one!
