Morocco being over built by Hotels

Hey morocco coast line from banana point to killers maybe further is being built out by over 200 hotels and maybe a fisher mans port near killers , they will destroy the area and the surfers feel for the place and if they build a port they might totally wreck the long points. This process started last month they started to pull down houses and resturants our king thinks he will make a place full of hotels which all the tourists will go to , i think it will destroy the natural feel for the place and make things like a ghost town as there is not enough tourists to fill up 200 hotels. Surfers are the main tourist now in that area and campervan people.

This is going to destroy our coastline i wish it could be stopped.

Yes I was there in January when they started pulling down the restaurants overlooking Panorama beach. It looked like they were going to build some hotels across the street as well.

Like yourself I'm not sure the Kings got this one right. Apart from the surfing Tag has very little else to offer a tourist. No medina's like Assilha or Marrarech and little in the way of natural beauty like Tetaoun and the north. I'm not sure that most surfers are that interested in staying in plush hotels.

Maroc is obviously pouring everything into tourism though as I noticed that 10 or so Km towards Tamri there was a huge tourist development being built.

Me I fancy buying something in Essouria near the medina and then driving down the coast for the surf.

yes , everything is gonna be built from banana beach till panorama point , taghazout is gonna stay as it is ,and there wil be no fishing port in killer point , there will be surf hostels there .
the surf will keep great , but there will be more surfers i think here in the future cose the tourism is gonna be devolopped more and more. but u have to know also that this area has a lot a lot of other breaks other than anchor point or killer point , but there accesible only to people that deserve them, so u have to look from where to go in and go out . i hope that the good moroccan vibe will keep alive . and the responsible of this will be the people living there

Morocco Still Great

Despite the building work, Morocco will still be a truly cultural and lovely place to surf with quality waves and wonderful surfing available year long.

Morocco at its best, a glassy wave being enjoyed by a local surfer! Perfection! Photo Taken in the month of November!

Agreed

However, the problem will be that the independent traveller will find it difficult to get to say Tarazhoute without having to face a bit of grief.

British Airways have now announced that they will no longer provide flights to Agadir after May, leaving only the expensive Air Maroc or a flight to Marrakech and a 3 hour bus with board to Tag.

Maroc is looking to tie Agadir up with Charter deals and this will leave the independent surfers facing added grief. The building of hotels at Tag is the 1st step towards this.

Hi,

British Airways always stop from May to October. They only ever operate the flights via GBAIRWAYS under the BA flag its a code share.

Royal Air Maroc have always done well on this route and although slightly more expensive can actually be a great alternative. We are organising a large surfing event with the airline next November for UK, USA and Moroccan surfers.

I do agree that things will certainly change and the lovely calmer trips will not be the same, but then again Morocco for surfing has changed radically over the past 20 years anyway, I remember seeing no-one in the lineup when I regular surfed the spots so imagine how I feel with all the travellers nowdays, unfortunately you have to run with it, the locals want to grow the economy and the people want jobs, so in many ways we should be thankful also that they see tourism as a great way to earn a living.

A little secret you can find agreat deal of surf spots south of Agadir that no-one is ever surfing, so the exploration continues. Just keep searching, I found a new place recently that was awesome (not in Morocco, and no-one knows about it for surf apart from me.... it was an exploring trip and wonderful experience!).

It is a great shame things change, but life moves on we just have to remember the great times and evolve with the new.

i totaly agree with u Pure vacations, i still remember surfing anchor by my own in the line up, not everyday, but during the week yes definetly, we are still very friendly tho and Morocco keeps as a hassle free surf trip as it always was, and locals with an amazing hospitality comparing with canary islands and You will surf Anchor's that is a world class wave as good as la santa in Lanzarote for example, catching more waves in a friendly line up.
killer's point is till nowadays a wave that is not a busy wave yes it is for Dec 31th but only this period ,and it's also a long paddle to get to the line up, ( curent going south sometimes) but u can still go from the top of the mountain over the spot if u know from where to go down.
anyway, purevacations surfers are always welcome in our breaks, and just everybody is welcome to Morocco.

by the way, the name of the surfer of the picture is kamal HARBOULA, he is a very good surfer from casablanca, surfs The garden in safi that is 200 km from casablanca where you can find the moroccan pipeline called '' Stah Bouzroug'' an awsome lefthander.
and no tourists there, only locals surf this spot, some good moroccan surfers come from this spot.

There are no hotels in Tag only apartments and a few rooms.

On another point it looks sadly like I was right about BA not doing cheap flights to Agadir anymore. Only pricey two week return flights from Thompsons and First choice

Unless anyone knows different?
