Hang on to those dreams Tokyo! Sawe - 'Not many surf spots in Scotland' come on, get real, there are some real sweet breaks in Scotland apparently, maybe some cold water too (mind you, you will be in the Gulf Stream so it won't be bad, and the sharks are of the basking variety generally!). If you are looking for unspoilt beaches with no-one else out then Scotland is a good choice. Accommodation up there can be cheap too but don't expect too much in the way of employment.
I'm from North Wales, parts of it are similar to Scotland, just in a much lesser degree, one or two breaks around this coast.
Newquay? Yeah, it may be the home of British surfing but the real surfers are avoiding it nowadays, it's the place to cruise around with your board on top but not the place for uncrowded breaks. There are loads more places around Devon and Cornwall that you will enjoy. The South West is costly to live though.
Oh, and by the way, I've never even seen a crack dealer!
