All up and down the East Coast is good. What part of Florida do you live in?
I'm in North Orlando and usually go to New Smyrna or Cocoa.

I'm in Cape Coral, I love it but there is no good surf on the gulf. I have heard Cocoa Beach was good. What is the surf like there?

Smyrna is prolly the best surf in Florida, but there are a lot of seasoned veterans who get rather territorial. The same goes for Cocoa around 2nd light and the peir. My personal favorite is sebastian inlet

Hey i'm personaly from New Smyrna beach. I'm over in St Pete right now for military. Personaly I believe that Smyrna is the most consistant surf spot on the east coast of the US. believe it or not. Anything south of sabastian inlet sucks. Anything north of there is good.. (Just not in the summer :( )

You'll find many good surf spots along Florida's East Coast.
I have a website that caters to the Florida Surfer. I have a link there, to many good places to surf in Florida.
You can check it out at:

Daytona beach is horrible for surf. Go to Ponce inlet, New smyrna, or cocoa or melourne if you have enough time to dirve. But Ponce inlet is only about 15 min away and new smyrna is about 20 min away. Good luck it's been flat lately.

The BEST waves in Florida, overall, are at Sebastian Inlet.
But speaking of further South, Ft. Pierce on a good winter day is as good as anywhere in Florida.
Jupiter Lighthouse and Juno Beach also rock.
Anything further South usually sucks for waves.
I do agree, the MOST consistent surfing in Florida is between Sebastian Inlet and New Smyrna, as you've listed as good places to go and surf.
he wants surf i want beach !

do you recommend surfing during the storm or right after?

oh good heavens don't surf during the storm. the clown you see on tv behind the weather channel dude with board tucked under the arm, walking down the beach fighting 35 knot winds while the worlds biggest washer machine churns away is just that....a clown.
seriously, i've been chasing hurricane and typhoon surf for more than 10 yrs, and charging out in the middle of storm is dangerous....the wind and currents create a wicked fast sideshore current. even worse, it will punch holes in the sandbar that, under hurricane conditions, cause an unmanagable rip. BUT, most importantly, although big, the waves really suck underneath the storm....way too much wind on it.
you want either the incoming swell before the wind and rain show up. or even better, after it passes when the winds switch to light offshore and the remaining swell turns into pretty little barrels (doesn't always happen that way though)
that said: ft. walton pier, p'cola beach, fort pickens and alabama pt. are solid spots to the west....if you're up for a drive, panama city out to the east.
