(i'm from t.o. as well). you should check out the lakesurf.com forums, they are a lot more informative in terms of what you are looking for. btw, where in t.o. are you? and are you a beginner?

There is Surf in Canada!
And Lots of it. There is surf everywhere in the world in countries you wouldn't think. Virtually any country that has open ocean exposure.Like,Israel,Ireland,Spain,Portugal,Sudan,Iceland,India even Antarctica !!!
Canada is blessed with it's cold and mostly inhospitibale conditions for the average surfer.Which keeps our crowds down.But it's booming now within the last 5 years specifically.Nova Scotia, Vancouver Island and Newfoundland have been featured in Surfer Magazine numerous times..There has been surfing in Canada or Nova Scotia at least since the late 60's.
The Same crew of guys about 4 of them still surf there.And there has been Surfing on the great lakes for almost as long!!!
In Canada you can find World class waves in certain seasons particulary fall and winter.From Vancouver Island to Northern BC ,then from Newfoundland and Labrador to Cape Breton ,Nova Scotia ,and on rare days even PEI and New Brunswick Get Surf. Typically the waves are between 1and4 Meters in Height.But gets big and juicy in Hurricane Season and Nor'eastersup to 6-7 meters. Canada's coast are packed with point breakes and beach breaks that can produce rides of up to 250m plus on one wave.
But During Hurricane Juan The Waves reached face heights of 9 to 12 meters or 30 plus feet !!!!,[obviously unsurfable as the beaches cannot hold the volume]
There is Lots of oppourtunity to surf in Canada you just hafta find it!

Posted: Fri Oct 15, 2004 2:22 pmThere is surf near Toronto! I have found you can surf in and around the area of Grand Bend on the southern end of Lake Huron. There are alot of open beaches and mostly sandy bottoms. As some one posted earlier The best time is in fall. This time of year the storms and winds send the waves down the lake. While it is not ocean surfing it is a good thing till you can get to the coast.

I am further North then that, so yes, we wear suits.
on a different note, we were out on wed (2 days ago) and got some really good waves.....about 5 feet high, big for me since I can barley stand up.

Posted: Wed Mar 02, 2005 3:23 amI surf all the time on the west coast of Vancouver Island and the water there is way WAY warmer than in southern California (where I live). I read it's because cali. has a current from Alaska and south west Canada has a current from Hawaii.
