You are best off going to Newport, RI. Both 1st and 2nd beach have decent waves. There are a couple of good shops right across the street from one another in Middletown, RI which is actually where the "Newport" beaches are located. There is plenty of info on-line about RI surfing which generally speaking is going to be more consistent than anything in Mass.

There is a boston based group of beginners hitting Hampton Beach (New Hampshire) THIS Sunday (June 27th) we are renting from Zapstix in Seabrook (boards & suits)

Check out the Eastern Surf Association New England branch. There are a lot of shops from Maine (brrrr!) to RI and several BIC sponsored FREE learn to surf clinics this summer on the Cape & in Rhode Island.

Hello,

I just starting surfing myself. I live in RI so I go to Narraganset Beach. I am always in Ganset Juice they are greatest people to talk to. If you are ever in there ask for Tricia pan or Peter Pan they are both great surfers and Peter Pan is like a legend in RI. I just got myself my first board from them I got a BIC 7'8 I am having a bit of trouble balencing on it. I have only surfed for a about 2 monthe (last year). and now getting back into it since the summer is coming. Also check out 2nd beach in Newport and Matunick beach in Charlestown. Have fun!

hey all, im in CT and i got to gansett. but another place i like to surf is cape cod, MA... that gets some pretty decent waves (big surf comunity up there as well).

as to lessons... got to almost an surf shop and ask... they will either tell you they have a lesson for it, i know warm winds does. i taught my self, and it was a very fun experince... learning things on your own. if that makes any sense

I live near boston and frequently head up to nh ro surf. I have a group of beginngers I surf with - a mailing list - who I mail when I want to go out, etc. We are all new to the game and are learning together. more fun to learn with other people. if you would like to join us, please let me know, I can add you to the email list. Also, I would highly reccomend zapstix surfshop in nh, great people, they help us out all the time. Good luck.
