Mainland ECUADOR surf seasons & spots information

Mainland Ecuador has like the Galapagos mainly 2 seasons but we can add a 3rd which I will call Transition season or “Offshool” for people looking for best waves uncrowded spots seasons.

First Season is December to February for good chances to get best NorthWest swells. You could get sometimes few more NW swells on end November and beginning March. But best strong NW occur with more consistency on End of December through February. With the “El Niño” years prolonging this hot/rainy season and swells.
Best spots to look for surf on this first season are:
Salinas (crowded)
Chuyuipe(medium crowded) – Balenita -Capaes (uncrowded)area.
Montanita (crowded Dec-March)
Rio Chico-Las Tunas-La Rinconada (uncrwoded)
Cabo San Lorenzo(uncrwoded)-San Mateo(crowded)
Canoa-Pedernales (uncrwoded)
Mompiche(crwoded) -Pta Galera (uncrwoded)

When we say crowded in Ecuador means up to 20 people normally and in the hot Dec-March season which is the school out days.

The third season we are goig to call School in months are:
April-June. With crowds only on weekends mainly. With work days basically uncrowded even for Salinas & Montanita areas the most crowded areas.
This season best spots are:
Salinas FAE,
Montanita
Playas (BEST)

All the months from January to April have excellent very good to conditions all day practically with early am glass and afternoon. Little windy midday 8-10 kts.
Tem very hot throughout this 2 seasons. With lots of heavy sun and reflection. Also rain occurrence depending on how strong the “El Niño” or temperatures of the ocean is.

The Cool season in Galapagos called “the garua” season, is the trade winds from SW. At Galapagos they come from SEast.
Swells occurrence from S-SWest. More consistent than Northseason usually. Again depending on El Niño occurrence or intensity.

On this season; May-November the best spots are:
Cabo San Lorenzo (Manabi)
Playas (General Villamil-Guayas province) at the Gulf of Guayaquil
Being Playas the best area for conditions with great weather and consistency.
Playas has the longest point break in Ecuador with a 2 1 /2 mile right point wave. Which Starts at ; El Faro, Mal Paso, La Posada, Las Cuevas, Shark Bay, Olas Verdes, 2 Tetas, Chabelas, Rompeolas.
Also Engabao which is best actually with north swells very strong on Jan-March. Or Wests.
Pelado being the best wave of area with waves to 6+ solid and hollow. Maybe one of the best in Ecuador at level of San Mateo and Mompiche but a right.
Best of this season are months of April to June. Then from July to November the south swells keep rolling in but with windier conditions but very surfable and with days with sun and light winds early am mornings.
Definitely if you come to surf to Ecuador on July-November you must visit Playas close to Guayaquil only by 70 miles and a good road being rebuild it will be finish soon to make it even better ride.

OK this is it dude.
Enjoy and keep it soul
