Sooooooo, for the summer coming up im heading down to tofino b.c. to live with my cousin matt annnnd i plan on buying a surfboard, wetsuit etc. what should i buy?

You pretty much answered your own question. Your going to buy a board, and wet suit. Only thing I can think of wood be some wax, and a leash.

Better still take up golf, learn how to swing the club this will help with your surfing ( balance thing). then after a couple of years you should be ready to start surfing with no problems.

I am not sure about Tofino, but B.C. is british columbia province in Canada. It faces the pacific ocean and (from what I've heard) gets a lot of swell. It is kind of like North Cali but even colder!

dont be harsh lol can't u remember wen u all first started
i agree hire or even better get lessons and then u shud av free hire for the board, wetsuit and rash-vest during the lesson from the company.

wow i feel like an idiot that came out all wrong
since im only staying for 2 months i dont want to buy anything too expensive
so if you know any cheap boards or anything
or should i jsut buy used.
my cousin said him and some of his friends could teach me i guess.

Tofino gets some solid swell, so I would say rent the board/suit, though I am pretty drunk, so take it as you want. You are only there for a few months, so, maby you can rent what you want, for cheaper then buying it.

Actually Lisa I think you'll find most of the surfing-waves crew cant remember when they started surfing.....they really are THAT old
Thats also why they are all so grouchy too

Tofino is extremely cold water. You will need at least a 5/4/3 mm wetsuit, I would go for a 6/4 though myself. Get 5mm booties, gloves, and hood. You will need them. I use a rash guard and a 2mm vest under it all as well. And I will admit that I was still cold. Really good waves, can be crazy good, huge local attitude against anyone trying to surf the big stuff. Stick close to your cousin so they know you aren't a tourist kook.

Tofino isn't too bad temp-wise in the summer months. A 4/3 is fine unless you tend to get cold easily. Booties are a must, gloves are nice when it gets colder and I've spent three hours in the water with no hood in October.
For boards you might want to think about a fish. I haven't surfed one, but a lot of people seem to like them in Tofino when it's smallish... which it often is through the summer.

I live in Vancouver and have went to Tofino about 6 times this summer. From Vancouver you'll need to go to Horseshoe Bay and Catch a ferry to Nanaimo. From there its about a 3 hour drive. About 6 hours travelling total.
Rentals:
Long Beach Surf Shop has the best deals. The old, mean hippy is a really good guy once you get to know him, but a little rough around the edges at first.
Accom:
We always camp at Kennedy Lake. Its down a old logging road and is amazing. There are tons of camping spots and a few bridges in the area for you and a friend to practice you gainers.
Surf:
Long Beach- Gets packed
Incinirator Beach - Good Surf. Medium Crowd
Cox Bay - Good waves, crowded
North/West Chesterman - Best waves not to crowded.
