Southern California - March or June?

I have a choice between visiting southern California in March or June. From what reading I've been doing it seems that March would be my best bet to get some good surf. Is there a lot of difference in surf conditions between March and June? My other concern is crowds. Would the lineup tend to be less crowded in March or June? Not as many tourists in March but most of them probably don't surf anyway. I'm an early riser so would probably be out at the crack of dawn and hopefully get in a few rides before it gets too crowded. I've heard California is a nightmare for crowded lineup. The only place I've surfed in California is the Del Mar jetty on the south end of Camp Pendleton.

We usually get some rain around March time frame which may shut you out of a couple days of surfing with the polutants in the water. As for morning sessions. We all go early. Less winds leaving it nice and glassy. Of coarse you will need to watch the tides also.

like old guy said you do need to watch the tides. the patch i surf is rubbish at etreme low tides. The best times to go out are early morning aka dawn patrol and late afternoon (before dark) If not you stand a chance of getting some nasty wind :(

actually we didn't have much gloom this year. but I would say to come in march, as during june the crowds are big at the major beaches and surf is smaller.

Not so weird, all the people are there, not for the surf but for the sand, there's a lot of non-surfers and not water safe people there who are much better off when the surf is small.
