Hey!

I'm off soon for a 3 week surf trip.

Just wondering what more experinced people would take to back up their board.

I'm not sure how much wax to take?

Where to buy cheap replacment fins?

And what type of ding kit to take?

In fact any advice as to what is essential to take?

I ride a custom fatboy flyer.

All depends on where you are going. If you are heading to somewhere where there are surf shops then you don't really have to take anything. If you are going to the back of beyond you need to be well prepared.

Where are you going?

Sorry I'm off to Morocco, I hear there's not much out there in the way of surf shops.

Hey Midnight

I'm in the process of booking 2 weeks at a surf camp in Morocco in March :D :D :D

According to the camp's website:

"There are a few surf shops in Taghazout. Most hardware they stock is generally used, some new from travelling surfers swapped for Moroccan goods. Stocks are limited and best not relied on. There is on the other hand plenty of clothing from Quicksilver, Billabong to Diesel floating around, although authenticity could be questioned."

Taghazout is south Morocco, about an hour from Agadir airport.

Hope this helps - have an awesome trip!!!

Sal

Wow, that trip sounds amazing mate, hope you have a wicked time!

Furthest I've been is Cornwall...(woop woop! Tis along way!) but I'd recommend LOADS of wax, and make sure its the right temperature...I guess it'll be nice and warm in Morocco!

And on the warm front, loads of sunblock too....try and prevent that sexy 'wetsuit-neck' tan line we all get...!

Cheers guys I'm totally stoked about this trip!

How many blocks of wax would you take for a three weeker?

Just take a lot of wax; you can give some to some of the local kids.

Take a ding repair kit that has all the stuff you need.
Suncure, fiberglass, foam (filler), sandpaper etc...

Maybe take some old surf mags. that you don't read anymore to give to some locals. Maybe you can score some good info. on a sweet spot.

Agree with Drifting Along. I take 1 bar of wax per day of trip and give any leftovers to locals I have met. I never thought about the surf mags but that is a great idea. I usually take some stickers from the local shop to give away.

Along the same lines....
What should I take with me for epoxy repairs? I have never tried to do a ding repair myself but I need to learn for my next trip. Can I order a complete kit on the internet or do I need to order everything separatly? What are all the items I need?

I always like to have a couple boards with me. Sounds like a good reason to add another board to the quiver.

You don't want to be smimming for your board every time you lose it

Definately excessive. But they are cheap, I can always take them home cause they don't take much room. But, I always give them away to people I surf with and I have gotten more "hidden" surf location invites from locals from it.

This may sound odd.. but if your going to be out camping alot and driving the coast take a load of pens. The kids out there will hassle tou for ages. All the seem to want are pens!!?!

Ok so far,

Apart from board and wettie I've bought 12 bars of wax, A ding kit, A fin plug repair kit.

Gonna get myself another leash and thinking about getting some spare fins. I'll take a few old surf mags and some pens for the kids (gonna raid the works stationary cupboard

Then there's the Ipod, anti-dodgy tummy stuff etc

anything else?

I've got the "Quick Fix" ding repair kit from SurfCo Hawaii.
http://www.surfcohawaii.com/repairs.htm
Works on Polyester or Epoxy boards.
I don't have any epoxy boards, but it's worked great on my PU boards.

Suncure to get you back in the water in minutes.
Get down B&Q and get some pipe lagging to put round the rails of your board. I've seen how they chuck stuff around in airports.

You are right on the chucking stuff around. Each time I go anywhere to surf I have to fly so I have done lots of flights with the board packed.
i wrap the board in clear plastic or poly sheet, use packing tape and tape it up, wrap it in bubble wrap, tape it up, cut cardboard boxes into strips and run them down the sides, nose and tail, tape up, put into padded travel bag, put wetsuit into padded bag with board, travel. Never had a single ding or any kind of damage yet. Then I cut it open when I arrive, save it, and use it for the return trip. Hopefully it continues to work!
I tried it with the pipe insulation but I couldn't fit my board into my bag with.
