Surfing Waves

Thinking of going to morroco for a week in jan/feb (ive already searched previous posts btw ) and was just wondering how easy(hard!) it is to get around and to and from the various surf spots ie will i need hire car (im only 21) or is public transport enough...even with boards etc

Ive been looking at agadir as flights here seem pretty cheap and the surf looks good. Im only a beginner so is this a good venue for a beginner?

also is the surf pretty consistent? I dont want to get out there and it be completely flat for a week!

I stayed in Agadir last year at easter for a week.
The beach at Agadir is quite nice but there isn't really any surf there. When i was there, without a board i might add, i went up to a really nice beach break just before taghazoute, you cant miss it but i dont know the name as there is no signposts it might have been Banana beach, where there were two boards for rental from one of the small shops. Most days i caught the bus, but it tends to get pretty crowded and i cant imagine bringing a board on. Oh, and there was loads of pick pocketers, so watch your stuff. The bus goes from agadir pretty much past all the good spots up to taghazoute. If i were you i would rent a car cos i saw some of the best waves i have ever seen further up the coast which was really annoying because i did'nt have a surfboardwith me. Check out boilers if your good but stay away if your a beginner. Morocco is a really cool place to explore and the waves are amazing and it wasnt flat one day while i was there, you could head up the coast all day and surf some grest waves on a good swell. I'd love to go back some time with one of my boards and surf some of the empty waves up past Taghazoute. The only problem would be knowing if the breaks were safe to surf as the surfing population is pretty small in Morocco so must of the waves are empty.

I spent about 2 weeks (in oct) surfing just outside of Agadir in a town called Tagahzout. There are some cheap places to stay (i paid about 7 euro a night for a place right on the water) and the waves can go off.

I would recommend getting a car however. If you continue past Tagahzout you will come to killers, boilers and further on (about 30mins away) i got the best waves ever (perfect lines that went forever).

Also, as mentioned before, the bus from Agadir is really cramped and people tried to pickpocket me a couple of times. Just watch your stuff.

PS if you didnt know, Taj Burrows and Mick Fanning own a place in Tagahzout. I was lucky enough to be in Tagahzout when Taj was there this year (just after the comps in france and spain).....so if they go there it must be a pretty good place.

How do people generaly get their boards to Tag from the airport?

Is it possible to put it on the bus or a local taxi?

I'm counting the days until I'm off in Jan!

Best bet is to probably get a 'grand taxi'. They are the old mercedes (with a taxi sign on them). You could try a 'petit taxi' but unless you have a really small board you wont get it in.
Oh and if you get a taxi set the price before you get in (just ask at information at the airport how much a taxi should cost so you get some idea). The cabbie will quote a stupid price - just cut it right down and if he isnt willing to take you there are plenty more taxis.
