Surfing Waves

I can take a couple of weeks of during January - Mid March and was wondering whether anyone could suggest a good place to go surfing... been to the canaries plenty of times, and am going there again around May so now want to go somewhere else.

It needs to be warmish...not cold... any suggestions anyone where to find good waves around Jan - Mid March ???

I was just looking on Lastminute.com and you can get 2 weeks in a 4 star hotel in Agadir, Morrocco inc flights for £400.

Mexico's good that time of year as well

so you'd pay £400 for a flight and 7 days accomadation that's arranged for you? Paying £50 for a flight and about £6 a night for accomadation is far cheaper and more fun! Package holidays suck

Normally I'd agree package holidays suck, but for a 2 week trip (not 7days) that's not a bad price and it takes all the headache of trekking around with all your gear being hassled on the street while looking for a place to stay

But with £400 in Morocco you can live like a king for at least a month. Thats including your flight, public transport, food, accomadation etc. Unless you're rich enough to give your money away package holidays are a rip off (in most cases). Plus you have the freedom to go where you want and stay where you want. And in Morocco thats a very favourable position to be in as there is so much to see and so many breaks to surf.

The hassle is all part of the fun in my opinion. Especially if you know how to handle it and don't let them get to you it's a great way to meet the locals. I've learnt to speak quite alot of the language so when i get hassled i talk back to them in Arabic. Most people then tend to ease off with the "i want your money" crap and are really eager to talk to you. It's amazing how many free Tagines or Cous-Cous meals i've had from speaking to random hasslers who have invited me to their family home for dinner. Really nice people in my opinion. I'm going back there to stay for the winter in about 2 weeks. I can't wait!

Mate, I agree with you 100% and that's the way I travel.........cheap flight, cheap hotel, local food and local transport......... in amongst it all.

But, Newsurfer79 can only take a couple of weeks off work/study, so when you're restricted like that, I would have thought the less hasssle the better. Get on the plane........get off at the other end, bus to hotel and check in. Easy!

Yea absolutly. It's quick, convieniant and easy so in that respect it can be preferable to some people. I was just speaking generally though. There are still alot of people who find it intimidating to cut out the middle man and to arrange the holiday for themselves.

I normally spend a month or two out in Bali probably doing the same as you in Morrocco, surfing, hanging with the locals and generally having a ball.

Only trouble I can see with a two week package in Agadir is that all the reports say that the best waves are all further up the coastline?

No not atall. In-fact, some of the better breaks are further down the coast than Agadir

Thanks guys !!! Never been to Morocco so I´ll get some info on that... would it be a cool place to take a family ??? As in a two year old + wife who is pregnant ??? If not... it will just be me going... but I am pretty sure my wife would love to come too...

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts on that !

Personally I wouldnt hesitate to go. The wife on the beach or by the pool with the little one and me out surfing all day.

I hit Costa Rica every year for 2-3 weeks. Expensive flights, reasonable hotels, cheap but awesome food, water is 80 degrees. Worth it every year
Been looking at Nicaragua for winter 2007/08. Nice beachside accomodations for $10. Never been though so couldn't really say much.

my name is younes and i'm fom morocco , to come here at this period is not a bad choice if u are looking for a warmish place in winter that has great waves, at this part of the atlantic ocean especialy in the region of agadir( 300 sunny day / year ) u get the best surfing conditions of morocco

package deals are not bad if you don't want to "wing it", package deals are a great idea. I always use a travel agent. Why "cut out the middle man" when it doesn't cost you anything. And she always gets us the best prices. I know because I compare it to online prices. Of course, I'm also like a nice hotel at least 3 stars. It's like getting someone else to do your work for you...for free!!

I'm planning a 18 day trip through Morocco starting at Agadir. The plan is to hire a car, bring a tent and just find what I can to surf. I'll figure out food etc later. The question is whether I should arrange a car rental upfront which is normally a rip off or should I get to the airport and just try to find something?

Alternatively I can try public transport but my days are limited so I want to make full use of my time (surfing time).

Also, the flights I've seen from the UK are around £309 - £400. Am I missing any deals.

I'm leaving around the 14th Nov so just wondering, in personal experience, what the conditions are like.

Any info would be VERY MUCH appreciated.

most probably here in the Philippines, a good time for surfing is Mid March to July...
the waves are so good, the sun is also good...
