Help me plan my winter surf trip

I'll be taking a Christmas vacation surf trip to somewhere in central or S. America. I have roughly 2 weeks and I want to maximize my surf time - so I am looking for somewhere that will have consistant decent swell and not be too overcrowded. Also, while I don't want small waves, I don't want huge ass barrels (i've got about 2 years experience but the last 2 months have been spent inland).

I've been looking a lot at Costa Rica but am concerned that Costa Rica will be a little crowded and overpriced. Anyone have experience with El Salvador or Guatamala?

So, tell me what you think :)

I don't know El Salvador or Guatamala, but I live in the Dominican Republic in Cabarete near the surfspot Encuentro. The surf is great here. Normally every day waves and the best ones in wintertime. It can get pretty high, but on average it is around 2, 2.5 meters. And also when it gets higher, you can simply practise a little more at the side where the waves are lower. The spot itself is absolutely beautiful and not crowded. People here are very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Next to surf there is a lot you can do and the country is beautiful. Cabarete itself is a great surfers village.
