Hi,
I’m from the east coast of England, and I’m looking to go surfing for a week somewhere warm at the end of Jan or beginning of Feb, but I’m going on my own, so would prefer a safe camping or youth hostel style environment where I can meet up with other people. I’m also only a beginner, having only surfed a few times on our North Devon coast, and want to improve and practice, so I don’t want to go anywhere with massive waves! Can you suggest anywhere within cheap flight distance? I thought Portugal, but maybe spain would be better?

Hey Holly,
My name is Duncs [obviously] and i am based in the south of England, well Horsham actually. The 27th most boring town in the country, apparently,....
Anyway, i am 18 and on a GAP year, and am looking to go surfing too, sometime in this winter, Feb/March, whenever. I have looked into Portugal and Lanzarote so far.
I might have mates who are interested, but i might end up having to go on my lonesome : ( [poor me]. Anywayz if your interested in a surfing buddy or just wanna chat about ideas of where to surf [i wanna pick ur brains too!!!] or just wanna find out about me [the avid rock star],....then i think my email address is in my profile.
Oh and i am a beginner too....my only surfing so far being at Croyde Bay in Devon!!!!!
If not,..happy surfing!!!
Lataz,
Duncs

Hey Duncs!
Croyde is my only experience too! What a nice place though! Everyone goes surfing in Croyde aparently! The centre of the world.
Well, I’ve just been looking into going with organised groups thisarvo, but it’s a wee bit expenny, prices starting at about £450 (!!). It does include loads (that’s with ‘extreme holidays’). They claim to be much more exclusive and take you to lesser known spots in the Canaries, so they’re calling me back with any late deals they’ve got, but I don’t think I can afford it really. They only go in groups of six and no more.
The canaries sound good anyway. Be good to have a surf bud, so I’ll let you know how I get on researching, likewise, if you have any solid plans, give me a shout, but I’ll probably go last week in Jan or first in Feb, as I work on a sailing mag, so I can only do two weeks of each month. I’m 29 though, so I dunno if you’ll be wanting to hang out with an old lass like me!! I want to practise and improve, as both my mum & dad were surfers in their day, and my brother too, so I know it’s in my genes! It’s hard to practise at Croyde, too many people, although I may go down next month with a winter wettie if anyone’s up for it!
Anyway, I’ll be in touch.
I thought you could surf on the south coast? Where abouts are you near? Bournemouth’s alright I hear, and further down in Devon...Lucky having a gap year, wish I’d done that!
Let me know of any further ideas,
Potatas!
