Surfing Waves

I just got this new 6' bilbo flying fish and i really want to try it out. I live in London but am going to the cantabria region of spain in a a couple of weeks. The double retro fin setup glassed on so i dont know about fin protection for the flight over. Iam travelling with ryan air by the way.

How badly are the boards treated and how badly damaged do they get with ryan air especially?

Should i just forget about it altogether and wait untill i drive somewhere like devon in the UK?

Can anyone with surfboard travelling experience give me some tips?

I've flown a few times with Ryanair to Santander and taken my board.
Never had a problem, but if you're taking a board with fixed fins, make sure you put some thing solid in between them, so they cant move. There is some kind of block of foam you can buy, but if you use any kind of packing material, polystyrene etc.

Make sure you check out Liencres, about 20 minutes west of Santander........beautiful

yeh thanks i'm flyin into Santander too and stayin in the city just next to the sea, do you know what the surf's like at Sardinero beach

Also i hear the crowds and locals are a bit rough at liencres and there are many rocks, is it really that bad.

To tell you the truth I've only seen Sardinero flat or small, but drive to Liencres and it's always bigger. Must be some kind of wave magnet cos I've driven from Mundaka to Liencres one summer and it was the only place with anything surfable.

Never had a problem with the locals or the rocks. Just use common sense, dont drop in and be respectful and you'll be fine.

It's a really beautiful spot.
I've also surfed Somo which was quite good, but it's a real mission to get to.

I'm jealous of all the good food you're going to be eating. There's some really good seafood restaurants on Calle de las Quebrantes, off Calle Marques de la Hermida. Any cab driver will know it.
