I´m a complete newbie at this - never even surfed, but I am a little over average snowboarder (though I doubt it´ll help me much).

Here´s the thing: Me and a buddy of mine are planning a four to six months long surfing trip to learn this stuff, and we really need some clues as to where to go (and basically everythin else too...).

Now, we simply haven´t got the money to go to more than maximum one or two countries, so what do you guys think would be good places to do this? And what time of year? And what kind of board should one get?
Some have told me it´s easier to start on a mal or a foamie but then again we´ll be doin this for like four to six months straight, so maybe just jump straight to the thruster? What do you think?
Since we live in Norway there´s really not a lot of people to ask these questions around here as you might imagine, so I´d really appreciate some help...

Thanx!

Manu

This is abit of a 6 million dollar question really. Difficult to advise on board size without knowing your sizes, time of year depends on where you go due to summer and winter seasons.
Sounds like you need to go somewhere cheap that has a variety of different breaks and has the possibility of hiring boards.
Are you going to get a board each? If you do you could get a minimal and a largeish thruster maybe?
You guys need to give us a bit more help here.
But my vote is go to costa rica!
