Not really.

More specifically

As you can see there's better spots fairly close by... And even better further away. I'd suggest heading south. With the advantage that accomodation is cheaper!

I haven't actually made it over to Oz yet but heaps of my mates in NZ have been over recently. One of my english friends is over in surfers paradise working in a nightclub at the moment (she doesnt surf). From what i can make out its a fantastic place to party and shop but other than that your pretty limited. Tourist central and tacky to boot by the sounds of it. If your just going over to surf then by the looks of it theres a whole load of other places your better off going to. Pefect if you want to make money, spend money, party and get laid (with sunburnt scouser poms) however

Ew!
That sounds totally crap!
Ok. Only seemed like a good package deal $600 for 7 nights accom and return flights to chch NZ.
hmm.
Those places sound great doug! Ta for the wanasurf site. Have you surfed The Alley? Burleigh? Are those the places you meant when you said head south??
Or did you mean like... Tazzy... ??

Surfers paradise is no way paradise. Totally aimed at tourists with hi-rise hotels that cover the beach in shade in the afternoon (duh), but if it's a cheap break you want, go for it. Just rent a car and get out of there!

Nah, haven't made it to Qld yet :) It's over 2,100kms from home. Got some mates who have tho :D One who lived & surfed in Qld for years.
And yeah, I mean Burleigh Heads, Kirra or Snapper Rocks. Assuming you are experienced enough. Those spots get pretty crowded, tho. Otherwise best bet'll be to carefully pick a spot suited to your skills and a day and time that it'll be at it's friendliest.

Surfers paradise is crap. Good night life, tho. But it's a good place to start. The surf is destroyed due to construction work (so I was told). You can walk about 4 kilometers north, to S. Stradbroke Island. You'll need to paddle over a shark infested(according to T. Carroll "river") Well worth it.
You can also catch the local bus, go a little bit south. Look and you'll find.

Actually I'm a stale grom. Been learning for 4 months now.
I'm asking if there is enough there to keep me happy.
I like little waves (by your standard probably... 3-5 feet..ok, knee to shoulder height) and I heard Auz has less powerful waves in general than in NZ. Crazy heavy breaks aside.
True or lies?

Hey young fella. Surfers is a surfers paradise. The Superbank or xxxxx as its affectionately called is probably one of the best r.h. pointbreaks in the world. And the most crowded. Get it on a knee to sholder high day and it wont be that bad. You will have a blast. If you can surf Murderers Bay near your place you will be fine. As for the power of the breaks you will be fine provided its not 5ft plus. Same sort of power as the East Coast of NZ. Like everyone has stated you are better off heading Sth towards Byron. Heaps of points etc. round here. But Surfers is a great starting point. And hey the rest of Oz will seem uncrowded after that. Check out
www.swellnet.com.au and have a look at the cams of Snapper Rocks. This is the superbank........
