Surf Pool - Orlando

Has anyone ever tried surfing in the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool before ? Is it any good ?

I'm going to Orlando for 10 days in June and curious if it's worth the try (They have 100 waves surf session there). Maybe I can do this in case there's a flat spell like last year when I was there.

dunno about wave pools but theyre building one of those standing wave thingys here in swansea, should be an interesting way to break all my bones.dread to think what the queues for it will be like tho

is the building done yet for it? i live like 3 hours away so i can drive. i thought it was still under construction. i do know however that it is booked wayyy in advanced by tons of people when it wasnt even up yet. so i bet itll be packed. ill def be going tho since FL has no waves till next winter.

yea i just talked to a few of my buds and you have to book your trip way in advance or else you wont get in. the lines are way long. also, it costs 10 bucks a wave? im not sure if someone can confirm this then that would be good. thats like 200 bucks for 20 waves....not a good deal

Just spoke to the Typhoon Lagoon people and she told me there are only 2 surf options within the park.

1. Surf lesson (for beginners)
Cost US$135 for 2.5 hours (half an hour theory on land and 2 hours water session).

2.Private 100 waves surf session morning (before park opening) or evening (after park closing).
The waves are 4 to 5.5 ft and the total 100 waves will last about 2-3 hours with maximum 20 surfer during the session. The cost of this session is US$1050 in the mornings and US$1150 in the evenings. Extra charge applies to spectators or surfers beyond the 20 persons limit.

..... it costs 10 bucks a wave? im not sure if someone can confirm this then that would be good. thats like 200 bucks for 20 waves....not a good deal

baja fresk, your friends are right about the cost and I agree with you it's not good deal at all. In fact it's plain crazy! For US$1000 I will wait until the Ron Jon surfpark is open and get their membership instead. Or better yet I can go on a surf trip with that much money!

Oh well, looks like I just have to drive around silly like last year if there's flat spell again.

just go into the ocean, its free and provides better waves, i mean paying 1000$ for 2-3 hours of surf in a park, or surfing for 8+ hours in the ocean for FREE thats right FREE

I was in Florida for 12 days last year around that same time and not one day I found a decent surf-able wave. I drove around silly from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Stewart, Orlando and Cocoa beach. I spent over US$400 in car rental and lost track of how much money I spent on fuel. Not to mention the hotel and airfare. So for a visitor to the area like me, it was not entirely free and cost effective.

Sure I had a nice time in Florida but surf wise zero, nada, zip. The whole point of this post was to find an alternative way to surf when there is no surf for people who is travelling so that the trip is not a total loss when it comes to surf. Some people called this "planning ahead for your trip".

My deepest sincere apology to you for posting this subject. How silly of me to think that this is the whole pusrpose of the section of this forum; to help people plan better for their trip.

what water do they use there? normal swimming pool water?
I remeber watching a programme about a wave pool in japan and the surfers there said they had to use different boards to usual do to the pool water not being as buoyant as salty seawater.

ok there are no waves in florida until next winter or the next hurricane..thats why they built the wave pool in orlando. but i do say that its expensive as hell, and im not ever gonna do it, even though they are perfect barriling rights and lefts

Yes, I read about that somewhere as well. Although I wouldn't know whether Typhoon Lagoon uses fresh or salt water. My suspicion would be fresh water. It looks awfully clear blue on the picture. But the other surfpark is going to use salt water to give the real surfing experience only with guaranteed perfect waves each time. Plus it's not as crazy priced as Typhoon. According to their website they'll going to charge around $50 per session (2 hours) for non members. I really can't wait until that park is open. I was hoping that they'd be open by this June like they said last year. Unfortunately, now they're saying it's gonna be the end of this year or beginning of next year.

I fully agree with you that Typhoon surfpool is crazily priced. But so are other Disney's prices.

But seriously, would you or would you not give the other surfpark a try? I know I would, once they are open.
