Hawaiian Surfing Vacation

Postby NickWRX » Thu May 13, 2004 10:57 pm

I was wondering if anyone has gone to Hawaii on a surfing vaca.? I am planning to go when I grad from college in 2 years. I want to plan out the perfect 2 week surfing trip around May/June. I almost want to stay inland with a good local guide so they can show me around. I dont care much about where I stay as long as there is AC and a roof over my head! Price can vary, im looking to get ideas. Any info welcomed.

Thanks,
Nick

hawaii

hawaii is flat in in that season. youll be lucky to get a swell from 2-6 feet on the south shore. if youre here for 2 weeks youll most likely see one 2-4 swell. its also very crowded because honolulu is on the south shore, and everyone comes out when theres a south swell, since 75% of the population lives in honolulu. really lucky=7-15ft i would suggest a cottage on the north shore in the winter if youre really good at surfing. the winter north swells are about 5-30 feet, and its in the country so it seems a lot more like an idealistic hawaii than the city does. i live in honolulu and have since i was 3, but in 2 years i doubt ill be here anymore. im sure youll be able to find someone while surfing to hang out with if youre outgoing enough to talk to them. a good hotel away from the beach, maybe a 2 min. drive away, will cost maybe 75$ a night. the nice ones are about 100-200 a night. or you could probably find an apartment or condo and rent it for a month for like 500-700. i suggest australia instead if you really want to see some waves.

i guess i should give you an idea of how crowded it is. 75% are in honolulu, and about a million live on the island all together. maybe maui or kauai or another island would be more fun, but i wouldnt know about that i havent been to another island for a while.

Hey thanks for the replies! I appreciate your input Trevor. I gotta be honest, Im no crazy surfer! Ive surfed a dozen or more times down in the outer banks of North Carolina, some Florida surfing, and the NJ shores. So anything over 5ft might be damn good! But I do understand what you are saying. Im looking to spend no more than $2k including airfare. Thats why Im looking now so I can plan the best vaca. possible.

Thanks again,

Nick
