Surfing Waves

Any of you New Zealanders check out that artificial reef yet?
If so, how was it?

They've kind of stuffed it up a bit, its still not finished yet. Brent knows more about it than me though so i'll pass it over to him.......

Surfline ran a story on it. They stated it wasn't finished yet, but that it was still working. Pumping out decent lefts like a mini "Box". They stated that by mid-May, the right side of the v-shaped reef will be filled with sand, and what is now a predominant lefthander will be an A-frame peak. Sounds like it will be really sweet once they finish. First really sucessful artificial reef.

Narrowneck, on Australia's Gold Coast was built pretty deep. It still works, but it takes a large swell to break. Flattes I mean Pratte's Reef in El Segundo was just a pile of sandbags (and I hear it's a pile a crap).

I havent been back to the mount since uni started, but last time i was there it was sort of producing a wave but nothing surfable, its pretty shallow at low tide, there were groms actually standing on it between sets Maybe they've done some more since i was last there. One things its definatley created are two bloody big rips down either side!

The reef is 2/3 finished. If you imagine an arrowhead facing out to sea one side is finished (left hand break) and the nylon lattice land out for the other. The bags on this one side are almost pumped full, it is producing an odd little slab that runs for 20 meters or so in good conditions. The head of the reef (the sharp end) is not complete and the waves will not focus and fire off properly until this is done.

Driftingalong has pretty much nailed it. I'll keep ya'll posted when I see something worth posting on the project.

Hmmm... so no news may mean its either complete shite or its really, really good !

There'll be no hiding this if it works. ASR will shout (and spin) it from the rooftops.

They were supposed to restart work on it in Feb,m no swells so ideal, but the boat was booked or something,

Nice lil' article link there drifting' ... wondered if brent was gonna post up some piccys at some point when it was done . Im guessing if it is that successful then the info will be passed globally and lots of clone reefs ( within reason and logisitcs of course ) ...will pop up
