ok well i have several good maps of mexico, road, surf, and gps all loaded and ready to go. i plan on heading out like end of june and stay till around 3rd week of july. the problem now is, will my vehicle be sufficient? i have a 97 toyota Rav4 5spd but 2WD!!! everything im reading keeps mentioning 4x4 for alot of spots. my area should be from san blas nayarit to possibly ixtapa, but more than likely, not much farther south than border of michoacan. someone who has road tripped this please give me some advice. im seriously considering purchasing another vehicle or something, i duno this has got me super stressed. im not worried about cops or anything, i have several good friends who live in San Pedro in monterrey, the rich section. if anything gets crazy, i can probly get out with a phonecall. but anyways, please let me know about the area access. i know the roads are good, its the little access dirt tracks to the beaches that im worried about!!!
also, im considering baja as an option too, although i would lose almost 8 days to driving (from houston tx). i HATE, i mean HATE cold water, i can tolerate 62ish and higher with a suit, but i dont perform very well even in that. i wanna head to south baja but not the crowd of cabo. i want deserted spots, camping, all that good stuff. i have seen some videos, especially "my eyes wont dry" and the roads look more dry, good for a 2wd car. what do you guys recomend?

thoese Rav's are bloody tonka toys! like most 'off-road' vechicles now-a-days.

Don't blame me but you will prob get away with sticking some deep tread tires on the drive wheels as its so dry out there your unlikly to need grip in the wet. its the sand you'll have to worry about.

yea i know. i was thinking of buying a little mazda b series truck i found, still 2wd but they can be beat to death! i think she will do fine, but im still just iffy on it. i think baja would be a badass trip, but thats alot of driving, 8 days roundtrip!!!!!!! mainland would rock, but access to spots is extreamly sketchy from what im reading, and im also thinking mainland might be more crowded? ahhhhhh is there anyone on this board who has been to mainland or baja mex quite a bit?????
