Surfing Java - quiet beginner breaks in August

Postby MikeyF » Mon Dec 02, 2024 4:23 pm

Hi,
I will be in Java in August 2025 with my two teenagers. We have travelled many times in Java, but this will be our first time as surfers.
We are all pretty new to surfing so would like to find a beginner break that is relatively quiet. I've read up on Batu Karas, though I have read mixed reports that it gets very crowded. Is this true or are their better alternatives?

We have 1 month on Java, so travelling to harder to reach surf spots is an option. We will need to rent boards, so it is important that we stay near a surf rental store.
Thanks

Oh Mikey, August is the high shoulder time for Indo Archepelago, so other than the sand beaches of BatunKeras, all the epic reef breaks are firing racking up a body count…. so BKs is accepting all the learners and intermediates for jakarta on the weekends, but genuinely Indo is no longer an easy find of uncrowded havens, and for learners the more sketchy finding quality learning waves alone becomes.
The high and shoulder season fill the resorts, surf camps and house stays. Krui in Sumatra has a similar vibe for learners to BKs but is a little more hard hitting and is heavy in the nearer to the equator heat.
Lots of promise in each resort’s blurb read with awareness see if there are any reviews check them
