Where to settle in Santa Monica (CA)

Hello everyone!
I have a very important question today, for those who know Santa Monica very well.
I'm about to move to Santa Monica (CA) with my family where I'll live for 4-5 years. I'm a keen surfer (shortboard) and I want to choose the right place to settle so that I can access to decent surf without using the car (ocean front). Please consider that I will work in Santa Monica so I need to remain in that city, and this means that I can't opt for amazing popular point breaks out of Santa Monica.
The questions is: Santa Monica coast is 5 km long, where are exactly the best places to settle to access easily to decent and consistent surf? I will work in Wilshire Blv, just to give you a point of interest.
I read that there are a few breaks in Santa Monica, but they are not all the same, and the accessibility might differ due to the roads, depth of the beach and distance from buildings etc.
Thank you so much to anyone who could help me! (With two small kids wouldn't be easy to take the time to explore on my own)
