Lombok Trip Planning Help

Postby Emann824 » Sun Sep 17, 2023 9:01 pm

Hello!

I have booked a trip to Lombok Indonesia, to do some longboarding. I am trying to understand if I have a good plan, I’ve done a ton of research and there are a lot of options, so looking for some help if anyone has been!

I am considering staying at rascals resort, and then using surf with damar to take me out and help coach me to improve my cross stepping, and hopefully learn to hang ten.

I’d really love to stay on a beach, where I can wake up and walk to waves on my own, but I can’t find anything like that. I’m probably missing something, so any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

Welcome Emann, A few basic questions can give us stuff to help advise you!

When are you going? The shoulder season is just about ending and the rainy season is coming in . Wet roads less surf of good quality due to unfavourable winds although some early morning opportunities.
Lombok is 30 minute flight from Bali, they were building an international air port ?? but it is still a bit of journey to Kuta Lombok.
Where are you coming from?
Do you have much surf experience? Cross stepping and nose riding is a skill set beyond just surfing,

How is your budget for staying at rascals, I note Damar has a villa to stay coupled with his surf lessons.

There are quite a few surf coaches and they often have links to family stays

The closer to the beach front to more the cost of accommodation.

More details There are also options further east tom Awang, Gurupuk and Ekas with resort / surf Camps .

Cheers Jaffa

Hey Jaffa!

Sorry I just saw your response!

I am going from Oct 28-Nov 2. Its on the tail end of a work trip, so not very flexible on the dates. It ends in Jakarta, so I am flying directly there from CGK Jakarta.

I have surfed many times before, can catch waves consistently. I can turn okay, but hoping to improve my turning, and learn to cross step. Lots of experience snowboarding, skateboarding, and wakeboarding. Looking for chill waves to work on my technique.

I also have a reservation at Ombak Resorts, at Ekas. Looks really cool, but I dont think I am able to get the same longboard instructions as I would in Kuta? Not totally sure about that.

Id prefer to stay at a nicer resort, to really relax after this stressful work trip. I would be open to a homestay, but they dont seem quite as nice. Maybe I am being picky ;)

Thank you,

I agree! We deserve a vacation after a long work, next on my list is Chile. Pichilemu beach, in Santiago and is known for having some of the biggest waves in Chile. And Matanzas also located in Santiago has a variety of waves for all skill levels. Have you been in Chile? My friend recommended me this https://gowithguide.com/chile because I am planning to get a guide tho. I am still making my own research.

Have a safe travel and enjoy! :)

Emann most of the resorts in Ekas are not on the beach in you look at the maps they provide or are too deep in Ekas bay to catch any swells, not short walks ether!
If you haven‘t settled on your place to stay have a look at Heaven on the Planet, it is right on the cliffs above Inside Ekas, you mention resort…… it is a good oneI am sad to see so many new homestays. and home resorts.
Whatever you decide let me know what it is like now so I can give better information.
Hope you get surf and not toooo much rain! :D
