I was just wondering, does Lundy island affect the amount of swell that Woolacombe receives? It must have some kind of effect?

Not really. Mainly cause of its position If you look on a map its pretty much due west of Morte Morte point and the bay itself is south of the island thus the prevaling swells approch from the SW mainly and so wouldn't be affected by the island as its not in the way. However with NW and N windswell there can be an effect but cause of the size of the island is neglageble (sp?!) and anyway N and NW winds swells are crap for the area.
So to sum that up.. thats a No cause its not big enough and its a long way off shore.

ahh right

gotcha! cheers for answering that. It's a shame there isn't any surfable beaches on lundy, it must pick up every ounce of swell. Isn't anything other than rocks though sadly

Aye I'm sure there are a few short and well dodgy reef/slab sections with the swell comming out of deep(er than usual dispite the 300+ miles of contnental shelf we suffer from.) water it would produce much more powerful waves than thoese seen on the mainland.
