Surfing Waves

When i get back from my 3 month trip round south america [T-11 days till i go] me and 5 of my mates would like to go surfing for a week in Devon!

Now, we are planning to go late august/earky september like we did last year cos the you avoid crowds, hopefully get better surf, while everyones back at school so its cheap! Anyway we were hoping to head to RUDA holiday park in Croyde for a week in a caravan since we know Croyde, but i just phoned them up and they say families only in caravans!!!

Now that puts us, to be politically correct, 'in a pickle'. Last year we camped, and this year we really want a roof over our heads...now i think its a bit off that they outright say only families. I mean its not as if we are gonna burn the caravan down, we just wanna hang out, play poker, and surf etc etc. We are all friendly and tidy and respectful, la la la...

So, can anybody else recommend a place we can stay?! Preferably in Croyde but i supppose we could go to Bude or Newquay. Though its best if is a caravan since we dont have bags of money to get an appartment....

Has anybody stayed in Ruda as a group of mates?!

I stayed in RUDA with a bunch of mates, but it was a LONG time ago (1990)

The problem is that places don't like to accept 'groups of blokes' because they think you're going to wreck the joint!

You may find Newquay more hospitable, but again some of the caravan parks have the 'families or couples' only rule.

Backpackers on the way to Fistral have dorms and when I stayed there we ended up with a dorm to ourselves - I think it's about £5 pp pn.

Monkey Tree holiday park between Newquay and Perranporth seem to be quite good and may be worth a shot.

The problem with Devon is that there are only a few places to stay near the beaches so you're kinda limited unless you want to stay in tents!

My friend and I once stayed in a small farm campsite the opposite end of Croyde to RUDA. We'd get up in the morning, go into the shower blocks (which were nice) put our wetsuits on in the shower, walk to the beach in a steaming warm wetsuit - surf for a few hours, then walk back and take the suits off in the shower! Didn't have to put a cold suit on for the whole week!

UNfortunately that's about all the advice I can offer!

ive been to ruda a coupla times with mates (well, with my school, but still) and i loved it, so close to the beach and a rly nice site too, i'd recommend it to anyone :)
