I'm off to Fuerte' on Friday for a week - does anyone know what the hire boards are like out there? i.e. can I hire a decent custom shortboard?
Swell prediction looks like 10ft+ :D !

From what I saw for stand ups you can get a nice selection of sizes and shapes depending where you go.
You staying in Corelejeco? How come your not taking your own?

Yeah will be staying in Corralejo.

Erm still not sure if I'm gonna take mine or hire one. On the one hand I'd be gutted if I hired one and it really sucked considering the quality of waves on offer, and on the other hand I'd be equally gutted to get my boards dinged at the airport and there is a fair bit of hassle involved in taking my boards just for a week.

Its gutting on the board tax for sure. but if you pack it well and put some polite signs on it in english AND spanish "Top Load Only Please" it'll be fine. you might get away without paying board tax if the flight is mainly normal passingers.

remove fins
bubble wrap/ wrap board in towles clothes etc taking care to reenforce the ends and rails.

If your fins are glassed in then cut some polystyrine blocks to fit over the whole area thus spreading and insulating from any impact. :)

Did take mine in the end. Invested in a BIG DaKine board bag :D . Fits 4 boards without fins - I put 2 boards in their own board bags in the one big bag. Boards all ok and safely back home home now 8) .
