Good Day All,

Curious what the status of Sri Lanka is these days? Open, closed, locked down, avoid, etc.? Haven't noticed it getting much attention and would like to know more.
Thanks and stay safe all!

I believe that you can go to Sri Lanka without quarantining if you've had both vaccine jabs. If you haven't, you need to quarantine in approved hotels for a period of time.

I really suggest you update with Sri Lankan travel authorities, Lebowski‘s information is 2 months old and the conditions have changed each month, there is a clear lockdown at the moment with 14 days quarantine for some classes of visas.
Sri Lanka is having difficulty containing the virus and variants.
Check seriously and consider the cost of quarantine money and time for your trip, consider -in coming back you may well be subject to quarantine too.
sri Lanka is considered a high risk destination at the moment .

Hey friend, I am new to the site and saw your questions so I made an account to reply. I am from CA but I have been living in Sri Lanka for the last 1.5 years. We had opened up and lots of new and returning tourists got into the country at the beginning of the year, up until about May - since then, we have been in another lockdown, which is starting to finally ease up. I'm not sure about travel or the status of the airport . . . I would assume that maybe you could come by August if you wanted to.

As for the waves, I'm in Arugam Bay. Season is on here until about October. Waves at Main Point are usually really nice, other breaks like Elephant Rock, Peanut Farm, and Whisky Point (all right hand point breaks over sand) are a bit of a gamble at this point, and Pottuvil Point isn't working yet. I'd say that by August all points will be pumping pretty consistently through September. 100% worth the trip if at all possible.

Accommodations last year and this year are crazy cheap too due to the lack of tourists for the last 3 years in Arugam Bay.

Welcome, nice to have on the spot information, that is not promoting this resort or that! :D

Jaffa, Randeeezy thank you so much for the information!
I honestly lost track of this inquiry, thanked Lebowski, thinking nothing of the two months that had gone by and SL's proximity to the Delta outbreak. My apologies and many thanks to Jaffa for the corrective! Really worth re-iterating thinking about post-trip, return quarantines as well. Jaffa's point well taken, most focus on quarantining in the country of destination and not about return trip back to wherever home is.

Agree, great having on the spot info like this Randeeezy without pushing a resort. I'll keep September in mind as I've long been curious about the East Coast. If you have any thoughts on between November to March that don't involve just Hikkaduwa, also love to hear them.
Thanks again stay safe eh!
