Surfing Waves

Hi, I am from Spain and live in Lancaster now. I have been told that St Bees is a decent place to surf and to do some bouldering but I don't find anywhere to hire the material. What's the nearest place to Lancaster where I could go, hire and surf?? I am not very good but I am not a begginer.
