Surfing Waves

Hey guys, I have the unique opportunity to stay at a house on Playa Rajada. It's pretty far up north near Nicaragua and doesn't seem to be near any real breaks from my limited research.

Maybe someone could help me out as I've never been to CR before. Any tips or suggestions would be awesome and really apprecaited.

But is there anyone who has any info on Playa Rajada and any spots near it? Perhaps a map? Anything would be great, I want to plan a great surfing trip.

Don't know where Playa Rajada is, but you'll have Ollys point and Whiches Rock not too fra away. There is nothing around whiches rock, so bring a tent, food, and plenty of water.

You can also go across the border to nicaragua. Get a cab from the border to playa majagual, near San Juan del sur. Great surf.

What's the deal with crossing the border? Is it a big production or is their border control pretty lax?

No big deal, as long as you don't have a car.

When you get off the bus at the CR side, there will be a bunch of kids wanting to help you. A good tip is to hire one of them. He'll cary your board bag, and show you where to go. You need an exit stamp, and an entry one for nica.

Give the kid a dollar. He'll act like it's way too little, but tell him he just made as much as his mother does in a whole day.

Check out The Surfer's Guide to Costa Rica by Mike Parise (Paperback) for surf spots. Amazon has another book on Olie's Point that I haven't read, but might be worth checking out.

hey oslo (or anyone else),
I'm planning a trip from Nicaragua to Costa Rica. planning on going to Bahia Majagual in Nicaragua and Nosara in Costa Rica.

anyway, so far is just my friend and i and we're planning on bringing our longboards. w/ that in mind we were thinking of renting a car. bad idea? what's the border routine if you have a rental car? i've heard you have to leave your car there and get another on the other side.

should we just take a bus or a cab? is it going to be a headache to get 2 longboards on a bus?

we haven't planned out too far yet, just have our plane tkts so any advice would be huge.

Majagual and other breaks around San Juan del Sur are great. If I was to do that trip agian, I'd just hang out in Majagual, waiting to meet some people who lives in Costa Rica. Many foreigners living in CR must leave the country every three months, and they must be away for 3 days (I think it is). If you have the time, I'm sure you'll get a ride.

You can't cross the border with a rental, and I wouldn't leave a car by the border. Boards shouldn't be a problem on a bus, just don't go firday trough sunday.
