I'd like to get some advice for my 6-8 week trip through Central America and the countries I was planning on visiting other than Mexico are Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Caribbean Colombia (maybe also Costa Rica and Nicaragua but I've already been to various spots on the southern Nicoya Penninsula and Popoyo three years ago)
regarding the following points:
- Buying and renting surfboards (I like 5'10 ~ 27 liters)
- Access to regions (busses and public transport) especially when travelling with a board
- Access to the spots (without 4WD or boat)
- Consistency (in Nov/Dec) and wave type (I like mellow head-high waves like I had plenty in Costa Rica but I have a quite some reef experience from Indo and the Phillies - overall, I am probably intermediate)
- Crowds
I am currently in California and will go to Oaxaca in about a week (not yet decided if I go surf there).
A first advice would be where to buy a surfboard; here in the LA county area it's probably cheap to buy one, but then I have to pay extra when taking it on the plane. I think I would sell my board at the end of the year in Colombia, where I am spending Christmas.
My current idea is to spend at least two weeks in El Salvador/La Libertad, as there are so many good spots and rather not so much in Guatemala, because when I look at google maps, it looks like one long beach similar to the French Coast.
Anyways happy to hear you suggestions!
