I’m heading to Fiji in December or January for 10 days of surfing. Currently riding a 6’2x20”x2.5” board thinking of getting a semi-gun was told probably a good idea to bring something longer and narrower then what I surf now any recommendations?

The where in Fiji you are surfing would help us recommend a board. So too how capable , or where your current wave experience lies!
Namotu, swimming pools are different by major degree from Cloudbreak, Frigates is accommodating Hideaways a small right hander and Sigatoka a sharky river mouth!

My current wave experience is north east coast of the US do a lot of surfing in New York. I would say I’m an above average surfer usually surf up to 8 feet or so on the east coast. I’m probably gonna try and surf Cloudbreak, Restaurant, Frigates Namotu Lefts, swimming pools prefer the Lefts since i surf goofy.

Ok , let’s work our way down, ,cloudbreak on it’s big day is ferocious you are quite frankly in the middle of the ocean. The wave goofy suited drive alongside the reef. 8ft is doable, you judge that when you get face to face with it.
Restaurants is a real down the line barrel fest. Take your A game. a below the reef wave meaning get pitched meet the reef.
Wilkes, Swimming Pools and Namotu are fair game.
Depending on where you are staying doable on the boats.
Use your judgement, the waves are nothing like NYC at 8ft.
If all goes well use a longer board suitable for the increase in power and speed you are going to encounter.
Just a note too cloudbreak being in open ocean is easily blown out or messed up. :D

Now the answer to your original post, take a semi gun at least, longer 20‘‘ width ok just a little more meat.
Oceanic reef swell require a little more paddle speed and offer steeper Drops than Hurricane swell.

Have fun, even small is better than most days around the outer banks! :D
