philippines july surf

Postby Damags » Mon May 27, 2019 3:10 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm looking into surfing in the philippines in july. I understand it's not really the season, though there still seems to be things. Sergeo seems too expensive, and also a bit too touristic for me, and I'm travelling alone.

I understand there is La union, baler which have consistent surf, guiuan, which has a moonsoon season, seems pretty cool, though I'm pretty much a beginner, a couple places closer to manila, probably more crowded, and also blue lagoon, of which I've heard really mixed reviews. Does anyone have a good idea of what to expect in 2019, from these places, or others, in terms of chilled beach, beginner/ intermediate surf, affordable prices, clean food and natural environment? Any places in particular to recommend?

Thanks for any advices :)

Im in siargao right now. I assume that’s what you meant by sergeo. I’ll give my two cents after our first three days here. First, the island is beautiful. IMO, if you’re coming here for the surf, now is not the time. I drove all the way up the east coast and the only spot that seemed to be breaking decent was cloud 9. And it was an absolute shitshow as far as crowds go.

I was expecting this so I’m not really surprised. We had a month to kill and siargao wasn’t far away. Always wanted to come here so it worked out. Next month I’ll be going a lot further off the beaten path to find better and less crowded surf.

Hi Orangejoe, thanks for your reply. I've done a bit of research since posting, and apparently, it will be habagat season in July in the philippines, which means SW winds (https://www.divescotty.com/underwater-blog/amihan-habagat-monsoon.php), and therefore, it's apparently better to go on the west coast, so I'm currently looking into either San Juan or Zambales, though I'm not absolutely sure which of the two places is the most consistent/affordable in July.
