Flat and Wavy Spot in Canary Islands.

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to travel to either Lanzarote or Tenerife (april-may) with some friends of mine.
They would like to take beginner surf lessons
while I'd really like to improve as an intermediate windsurfer, and I'm therefore looking for a windy-but-flat water spot.


I'm looking for an accomodation to have close access to both those kind of spots.
Any suggestions on where to look?
I couldn't find any on my own as, predictably, those two kind of spots are usually located on the opposite parts of the islands.

Up to now, my best bet would be to stay with my friends in La Pared (is it a good surf spot for beginners?)
and drive myself everyday to Costa Calma (which, of course, is my ideal spot);
but I'm really not to keen on driving every day and stay separated from my friends.

But maybe I've overlooked something, maybe a bay in the north of Tenerife which would shelter from me the waves, next to a surf school?

Sorry if this sounds confused and thanks for any help.


P.s. I should add that, in the worst scenario, I could drop the idea of a completely flat water spot (such as in speed or freestyle windsurfing) and could settle for a single beach where to do both, if after the shore break sea is calm enough.
At least, I think so, as I've no idea how wavy a beginner surf spot is supposed to be.

Lets help you by separating a few things.
If you want to windsurf then you sound like you know your choices!
As surfers we want wavy with off shore winds at gentle rate, we don’t want flat!
Im pretty sure there are windsurf school at suitable beaches, you will certain get all the prices and advice that will suit you on them!

what I'm asking is if there's actually a place in Fuerte, Lanzarote or even Tenerife where those two kind of spot are close enough for me to enjoy the holiday with my friends

To me it is not clear what you want, and yes you are probably right conditions may well suit one as opposed to the other on different sides of the island , lee shore as opposed to windward shore.
Look for somewhere to stay on a peninsula, there you have a close choice of opposite conditions.
It is always a gamble when you travel to a surf area, sometimes they don’t supply the conditions that suit

I windsurf since 35 years. When my daughter started surfing, I thought we could combine that, but quickly ditched the idea as you are looking for completely different conditions. So I try to surf now.

What works in some spots - surf in the morning, windsurf in the afternoon. But that will not be on flat water, rather messy onshore.

He's a flatwater windsurfer with friends who want to learn to surf. They all want to stay in the same place. So he's looking for accommodation with access to 1) a windy flatwater location and 2) a location good for learning to surf.
