Surfing Waves

Looking for somewhere nice and warm to surf in February which is suitable for beginners/intermediate. We have surfed quite a few times but only manage to get out once or twice a year. Any recommendations?

Where do you live? How far are you willing to travel? Any budget?

East coast Australia is nice in February.

I'm in the UK, but would consider anywhere warm and shark free in February!

You're going to have to fly very far for something warm. Europe/US is going to be cold. Perhaps something like SE Asia or Sri Lanka?

The obvious option is Africa. Morocco is the most established surfing/beginner destination, along with the Canary Islands. However, of course its still winter in those places. Much warmer than the UK but not hot (low 20sC).

South Africa is also a great destination, I guess strictly speaking not 'shark free' but the risks are pretty low. Its mid summer in South Africa and there are lots of beginner options. If you are willing to go a bit off the beaten path, then (by all reports since I have no personal experience), Ghana, Senegal and Mozambique are options (you can probably hook up with a surf tour company for these countries).

A bit further away and Central America and Sri Lanka are both around the same distance from the UK and both pretty good options. Central America has a lot of surf camps in places like Costa Rica (and to a lesser extent Panama, Guatemala etc). Sri Lanka also has some popular areas and is a pretty interesting country to visit outside the whole surfing thing.

Personally I would look at South Africa, or maybe look at a surf tour to one of the less developed African locations. Morocco is still an option, just not super warm. Both Central America and Sri Lanka are potential options but will be more expensive and longer flights/travel time

I’m in South Africa in Durban if you need any advise.
February is summer and we have the best waves in Winter (of course) but we still get some swell, fine for beginners.
Durban has warm oceans and shark nets, Cape Town has freezing oceans and no shark nets but there is more to do in Cape Town out of the water, not sure I would fancy those cold seas though.
There is of course JBay which is up there with one of the best surf spots in the world, does get a few sharks around there but I wouldn’t let that put you off.
Plus the Rand is weak at the moment so happy times in the bars.

Come this weekend, there is a 20 second 7 meter swell expected

Morocco! many cheap flights from UK cities to Agadir - its the main port near Taghazout surf village. In February its great weather, and waves are good for intermediates. We are adventure keys Taghazout.
