Had enough of these cold Cape Town waters for a while, would like to feel the surfboard on my skin just once in my life, and not to worry about pointy dark shapes in the water.
Could anyone recommend a good boat to go on around the Mentawis. Seen a few sites but word of mouth is always better. Plan is to hit the place mid/end September. Not sure if that’s a good time?
Thanks.

Mate we did a trip last year aboard a boat called 'Santa Lusia' and had one of the sickest trips i've ever been on. This was mostly due to the fact that the guide, Tony (cant remember his last name, Smith?? aussie though)was so good at his job, and his off sider, Sunny, was such a legend, and a sick chef! The boat was cheap by mentawai standards but she was solid as and comfortable, slept ten. There's so many good boats up there though, just depends on how much you wanna pay. I've got friends that use the 'Barrenjoey' and they rave about that being a great boat. Good move heading up there though, sickest, most fun waves on the planet... and take a hand spear!

Nice one, Thanks Jedi, will check those out.
Can’t see myself walking on board a 747 with a hand held spear, might get some strange looks, but will find another weapon to shoot bodyboarders with!!

Lightspeed, perhaps one good turn deserves another?? Ha ha... Im coming to south Africa sometime next year..I know enough to realise that the ASP would hold there comp's as closely as possible to the seasons best waves, but in your opinion, when is the best time to try and score J-bay?? Crowd wise?? weather wise?? Got about 2 months to spare. A sealed 3/2 should be warm enough in the depths of winter??? Cheers...
