When is the surf actually decent in West Bali?

I know it's been asked 100 times, but im a loser so im asking again.

Every time i go to the break on Berewa, Oldmans, Batu Bolong etc.. its just mushy and/or dumpy, never clean lines or the mini barrels i've seen in the pictures.

When is the tide the best in these spots? What parameters should i be looking at in the forecasts to better improve the chances of me having a halfway decent surf?

Cheers.

What colour are your boardshorts?
You have probably offended the Balinese gods, karma is very quick and effective in Indo

They are actually genuine and serious questions !
The west coast is seasonal, and responds to winds, at various times of the day,.
Your best advice would be to get Peter Neely's book Indo Lingo and Surf, available pretty much any good bookshop in Kuta., , even in Indo it depends on the day, there are plenty of sites that give the run down of when to go.
Next question at what time of day do you head out? Go late you will be blown out!
Are you in Bali now,? I'd be looking at the Airport and Bukit end as it is full season, the West is much more wind dependent.

About the colour of board shorts wear green and you are more likely to be a drowning victim for Nyai Loro Kidul.
Karma is alive and well in Indo.
See if that helps you!
Finally I'm curious why you see my forum name as offering smart arse!

Well i'll make sure not to wear green then.

I am going at the end of the day most times, and yeah blown out, i'm in Bali now i go anywhere from Berewa up really, starting to get too crowded south of there.

I'll get the book, thanks, so what you are saying is wind makes a big difference here, but i'm thinking tides, sandbars and such other topological information i am not privy to.

I just want an area where i can predict when it will be good, not looking for padang tunnels, just a nice line.

Tides mid to high , best for most west coast breaks, but seriously every thing after the trade winds kick in, forget it!
Any winds from North to NE and then east as side shore, all OK the rest of the winds especially the trades forget it.

Look at the geography of each break, long coast of barely separated by headlands, the whole coast from Kuta west gets Blown out, tides best mid tide to high , but still workable at low just find the channels.
As for a PDF of the book, probably not readily available!

Winds are up now, swell is not what it was last year. I'm spending more time dry than usual; surf is not good.

Seriously though; not a question to be asked.

Quadfinn,
you may not be going to Bali anytime soon. Today's news report says:
1. Bali's Mount Agung spews volcanic ash
2. Balie airport shut down indefinitely
3. At least 22 Jetstar, Qantas, AirAsia and Virgin flights are affected by Bali volcano
4. Some can't get in and some can't get out
5. briefing update by authorities on Friday, 27 JUN 2018
