Hey Bianca.
Welcome to the forum. I have never been to brazil, but like yourself i am a beginner, and as it turns out i am going to be in Brazil this July early August [tickets already booked]. I am a GAP year student, who is backpacking around South America, to do lots of surfing!
If you decide to go, send me an email, and maybe we can hook up for some surf!

Dear Bianca,
Seems that you gathering a small army of incompetents around you. A swith the other reply I am also heading out to Brazil for the summer- plaaning on being based in Rio for a couple of months - I teach in the Uk- am fairly in the dark myself about whats available out there but am planning to find out. So I will try to find you again and let you know what I learn between now and then.
Best wishes,
Stephen

hi there.
i went down to brazil last summer for a month (mid july-mid aug). it was a great all round trip. flew down to Rio. bought a 7,2 board there (cheap). surfed/relaxed in rio and then went up the coast a bit taking the bus and found some good places. since it is the winter there then, there were some days when the waves were just all washed out due to storms. but there is always things to do and the people are fun and easy to get along with. lots of good food (if you like fish and meat).
have fun.

Hi Im from brasil but i m living here right now. the best surf spot in brazil is Fernando de Noronha an island in the northeast. But threre are other great places to surf in the South and southeast. Florianopolis(Santa Catarina) Maresias (Sao Paulo) and Rio de Janeiro. In the northeast there is also a place called Itacare (Bahia) with a lot of good spots. Im from Sao Paulo and im always surfing around guaruja and maresias to good spots but i've been to all this places i mentioned. Florianopolis is great there are a lot of surf spot and other things to do. The last leg of WCT in Brasil was there. So go and enjoy

Thanks Babu, for mentions of those places, I'll keep them in mind. I'm heading out to Brazil in early July for 3 to 6 months depending on visa limitations.
