Learning to surf: is Sagres (in May) a good month?

Hi guys,

My current plan is to go to Sagres during the month of May and I want to spend two weeks in order to learn surfing.

Do you have any experience/knowledge about this spot during this period of time? Are the waves okay for a beginner?

Thank you in advance :)

It might be pretty flat at that time although the west coast usually has waves and is not too far away if you have transport.

What do you mean with west coast? The Peniche's area?

No if you look at the map on this site, surf map you will see Sagres. The Algarve has a coast facing south and a coast facing west. No need to go to Peniche.
The weather systems that effect the coast are somewhat different, there are quite a few surf schools there with accommodation, a thought though, in two weeks you will have a good time learning the very basics.
But it is a beginning
