Surfing in France, spring time

Postby LloydJones_96 » Mon Aug 07, 2017 6:44 am

What's the surf like in spring time? Was hoping to go in September but work has got in the way  so was hoping the waves are good in spring preferably April time?

There should be plenty of waves in spring, the earlier you can get there in the year the better the chance of waves.

Where do you plan to go? It should be quite good in April, it even can still be heavy in some places.

I have been in france for many times now, the summer can be very dissapointing. So spring is a much better option!
If the weather is good, the chance of having no waves, or unsurfable, is very big in summer time. Including september.

Well the April is probably still a good chance for you to take heavy beatings ;-)

France this summer has been a mix, the last two weeks we had everything from clean 6-8ft monsters, smooth 3-4 ft fun waves, unsurfable onshore storm with big wind waves and today the first day of nothing.

Biarritz last Friday...

i have been in Hossegor in April and September , TBH in April the waves might be bigger than in September but no one can guarantee that just go there and have fun .
just a word of safety , try to avoid surfing in that area during high tide as the best is low to mid tide , also try to avoid Le gravier and other famous beaches if you are not a very good surfer as the tides can be very strong and in case of high waves it cab be very dangerous as the waves brake almost on the shore and the water are not deep enough , in case that you are a beginner first spot to try will be La Sud , hope that will be helpful for you
