any1 know of any good surf spots around north east england? i'm looking for somewhere that does surfing classes in or around tyneside/newcastle

www.tynemouthsurf.co.uk do lessons, board and wetsuit hire, their shops just at the top of long sands beach and they are great.

Yeah, Tynemouth is your best bet! Great spot to surf and everything you need really.
