other UK surf spots

does anybody know of good surf spots ouside cornwall or the southwest . I'm based in Leeds so somewhere on the east coast would be good. i tries scarborough which was good but i'd like to find the best conditions ouside cornwall.

Hi surferdude_scarborough - welcome to Surfing Waves
I learnt to surf in East Runton and Cromer in East Anglia, so I know what a nightmare it is getting to the South West for a surf. Luckily for you it is not far to the east coast. I am a fan of Scarborough and enjoy.
There is surf from Withernsea right up the coast to Scotland, and plenty of good uncrowded waves can be found. The main spots up the coast are those around Scarborough such as Cayton Bay and Filey Bay, and then the spots further north of Newcastle. My advice is to get into the car and have a look further north Blyth (north of Newcastle) when there is a good SW or NW swell. You will be rewarded with some empty gems - mark them off on your map and you will not have to fight the weekend crowds of Scarborough!
Anyone else from the east coast that has some advice?

Just another question which are the reef breaks on the east coast? i'm only askin because a different site said that they usually get the biggest.

Hi reef, welcome to Surfing Waves.
There are some good reef breaks on the east coast, try Hartley Reef in Newcastle and the bays south of Scarborough. I won't go into details 'cos there are plenty of reefs if you want to go looking. There are a couple of classics that you won't find on any of the surf maps - no secret spots will be revealed here though!
My advice is to watch the weather closely if you are planning a trip - then you will never be dissapointed, you'll always get waves, and you will be far more likely to discover quality uncrowded waves.

As my family are regular visitors to cornwall. I can advice places like Polzeath and St Ives. But I reccomend Newquay the most. It has the best waves in the uk!

The only problem I have with Newquay are the crowds - it can get sooo busy. It is a great area for waves though.

I went to st Ives last summer, althiugh there were a couple of good (ish) days it was mostly flat. newquay was great though.

Try looking at surfaris.co.uk
Lists surf reports for the main beaches in the UK as well as webcams so that you can see what it looks like too.

hey guys,
im pretty much asking for advice the same as everyone else,
im used to surfing in the south west, and arounf the borth/aber area, just wanting to know, just how cold the water is on the east coast, my siut is only a 3mm, but have been known to surf in cold waters with next to nothing on.

The water in the east is only slightly colder that the south west, but gets colder further north. I would freeze in the middle of winter in a 3mm wetsuit (but then I am a lightweight!)
I would not be happy with >5/3 in the middle of winter anywhere around the British coast.

so i see the surf out of my bedroom window
countless nights i have ditched homework and borrowed a friends bord and pissed about on it i am dead lucky is anyone else like me
