Surfing Waves

I am thinking of buying a longboard (9.2) in the US then flying back to nz with it. Is flying with this board possible.? Am I wasting my time looking at this idea. Any feedback would be great.

Have a look at wave tribes airline surf board costs it has been updated for 2017. Seriously though I would consider buying the US board of your choice on line and see what their freight charges are. They pack it and assume the risk for damage. Often name companies have outlets in NZed
Cost to you of bringing it yourself , board, board bag shipping, risk of your new board being damaged, accompanied board often arrive with dings.

IMO there are really good shapers in New Zealand buy at home is a better option.
There is another option that enhances difficult travel , a Pope Bisect. Board, comes apart into 2 sections at 4'6" inside a board bag. Travels well surfs well and comes in under most difficult dimensions and weight. A Good board too.

I have flown twice with my mini longboard and my daugthers minimal. We put both into their 5mm Day bags which we then packed into the O&E Double Coffin longboard bag, which seems to be heavy duty with 20mm padding on front and back. It still left space for wet suits and towels. No issues on inter-European flights.

But despite this being a big and heavy package, we could watch how careless it was moved around by airport staff during loading of the plane, and I did get worried. Without a very solid travel bag I would not take my board onto a plane.

My 9'2" packed in a box came out to 120". Figure in some excess front to back on your 9'2" even with a 5mm thick board bag. 9'2" comes out to 108" already.

I fly Japan Airlines travelling between Hawaii and Japan. They charge $200, but allow up to two board in one case. China and Hawaiian air only allow one per. ANA doesn't even accept longboards.
My wife though flies with ANA , ( she's the one with the bow and arrow )
